A 492-page book containing a history of Kankakee County West and its communities is now on sale.
The book contains histories of the County West communities of Bonfield, Buckingham, Limestone, Irwin, Essex, Union Hill, Reddick, Cabery, Herscher, Goodrich, Lehigh and the surrounding areas.

The Grandpa's Kids team will hold its fourth annual Relay For Life Golf Outing on Saturday, May 10, at High Point Golf Course in Essex. Community Garden Planting
The Friends of Limestone Library will be hosting a Community Garden Day and Baked Food Sale on Saturday, May 17, from 10 to 3 p.m. University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners will be assisting with the planting of the garden at the Little School House next to the library. All are welcome to help with the planting. A baked food sale will also be held as will the final day of the Library's used book sale. |

Pause for Patriotism Celebration
Shapiro Center in Kankakee will host its annual Open House and Pause for Patriotism Celebration on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The celebration will feature military events, free entertainment and a craft fair. The day's highlight will be an 11:30 a.m. parade featuring the Herscher High School and Kankakee High School Marching Bands. The celebration honors Shapiro's contribution to the community and those who serve and who have served in military. |
